
The Sunbeam harmonica band is pictured from the early 1900s. Sunbeam School District #10, organized in 1916, was a one-room, white, wooden-frame building 3 miles south of Haxtun. The school was closed in 1949, and the students then went to Haxtun. A new attraction will be on display during this year’s annual Country Christmas and Parade of Lights celebration Dec. 3. The Kyle and Holly Hendrix family of Wray will display their reindeer from Velvet Antler Velvet Noses Reindeer Co.
Now available through Regent Park is a respite care option. Those who are burned out or wish to go away on a vacation but need somewhere to leave loved ones may now do so at Regent Park.
From Nov. 9-15, students in grades 2-6 participated in a Sumdog.com math contest, competing against other schools in central and northeast Colorado. During the contest week, students answered up to 1,000 math problems each and earned one point for each correct answer. Holyoke students won seven of the top 10 positions in the contest.

After sustaining significant structural damage during last winter’s snowstorms, the building housing PC Telcom has become “unlivable.” The business’ new temporary location will be in the Hassler Crop Insurance building at 120 N. Sunflower Dr.
Local runners Ryan Baumgartner and Marissa Smith earned first-place medals in the 2K event at the 10th annual Greeley Turkey Trot on Nov. 22. Smith placed first in the 16-19 female division and took first overall for both boys and girls. Baumgartner took first in 16-19 males.
Holyoke City Council decided at its regular meeting Nov. 20 to put together a committee to discuss possible loan options on employee retirement funds — an option through the IRS for employees to borrow money against their retirement funds.

Phillips County Telephone Company has filed with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission to add a new set of features sometimes referred to as “caller ID” or “calling number delivery.” Calling number delivery requires a special phone or device which displays the phone number of the calling party.
Adventurer, climber and award-winning photographer Brian O’Malley will be in Holyoke on Dec. 7 presenting several programs for youth and adults of the county.
Believing it should take the lead role in addressing the need for more dental care services in the Holyoke community, the East Phillips County Medical Recruitment Committee is channeling more energy into a dentist recruitment effort.

The “Spectaculars” are volleyball champions in an intramural tournament at Holyoke High School. Members of the team are Ray Wood, Larry Spohn, Steve Absmeier, Dolan Wernet, Allen Fisbeck and Kenny Gaskill.
The uniform Monday holiday bill has been introduced in the Senate and House and is given at least a fair chance of passage. It would place all legal holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day on Mondays, including Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day. Along with Labor Day, Christmas and New Year’s, this would make eight legal holidays — two more than we have now.
State Patrol Officer Carl Zetterquist reminds Colorado motorists that if their current inspection stickers were secured prior to July 1 of this year, they will expire Nov. 30. The new inspection law provides for the inspection of each vehicle twice in each calendar year at six-month intervals.

This territory had its third snow in two weeks Wednesday when about 2 inches fell. Two weeks ago about 3 inches of snow fell, and nearly the same amount last Saturday.
The town of Holyoke will have a test blackout for 20 minutes from 9:30-9:50 Thursday night, Dec. 10, in preparation for the blackout to be staged over nine Midwestern states on the night of Dec. 14. Cooperation of all residents in their homes is being asked, and the town will be darkened. It was also decided that all traffic headed toward Holyoke during the test blackout period would be halted near the city limits.
By putting farm equipment in good shape now, Colorado farmers will insure against costly delays during the planting, growing and harvesting seasons next year, when wartime food production will be urgent. With the supply of new farm machinery being reduced to one-fifth of the amount of 1940, it is necessary that every machine farmers now have be made to work until it is beyond repair.
