HHS senior Caitlyn Kramer was interviewed by Gregg Moss on the Channel 9 morning news Nov. 19 in Denver. Kramer and four others were selected out of approximately 5,000 students throughout Colorado to share why they are “stock stars” and what they have learned about the stock market during an investment simulation.
At the Dec. 1 business meeting at the Colorado Association of School Boards annual convention, Holyoke board member Jon King campaigned for and was elected to a three-year term on the Colorado High School Activities Association Legislative Council.
Harold Nelson, 97, of Denver shares his story of pheasant hunting in the Holyoke area on opening day every year but one for the past 66 years. On the one year he missed opening day, he made it for the next week of hunting.

With the assistance of two federal grants and lots of hard work and dedication from program coordinators and volunteers, services for Phillips County children and families should be enhanced. Baby’s First Steps is a Phillips/Sedgwick County parent-to-parent program that is in the organizational process. Mary Austin was hired last week to serve as part-time coordinator for the program.
Northeast Colorado was one of 13 “communities” throughout the state selected to participate in Cycle I of The Colorado Trust’s new Colorado Healthy Communities Initiative. This $4.5 million, five-year initiative establishes community-based collaborative problem-solving approaches to respond to local health needs in Colorado.
What started as a simple request by HHS seniors Jake Miller and Jeromy Sims to tour the KOA radio station in Denver turned into inclusion on a two-hour segment of last Tuesday night’s “Flipside” program.

A new business, G & M Raceway, was opened last week in the Blakesley building at 210 S. Sherman Ave. The business is owned and operated by Glen Harshbarger and his son Milton. A large seven-lane slot car race track is featured, and slot car kits, scratch-built supplies and repairs for all models of slot cars are available.
The Cherub Home in Holyoke, a home for exceptional children, has been sold by Mr. and Mrs. Loren Pfau to Mr. and Mrs. William Enninga of Holyoke, who have assumed management of the institution.
Preliminary work for construction of an animal clinic in Holyoke has been done and work on the building is expected to be started soon, according to Dr. Thomas A. McPherron, local veterinarian who will own and operate the clinic on Sheridan Avenue just south of Highway 6.
One of the largest crowds ever in the Holyoke High School gym turned out Tuesday night for the annual Christmas musical program presented under sponsorship of the Re-1J Parent-Teacher Association. The crowd was estimated at 1,100 by a member of the school staff. The capacity of the gym, using the bleachers on both sides and chairs on the floor, is said to be 1,200.
For an urban family of four to live moderately, an annual income of $9,191 is needed today, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Holyoke firemen, who for the past two months have tried to line up a source of supply of candy for the annual Christmas treats for the children of the Holyoke community, were rewarded for their efforts last night when the promise was made of a shipment of candy, to be passed out to the youngsters on the courthouse lawn Dec. 24.
More than 300,000 pounds of turkey were handled in the two campaigns in November and December at the local turkey packing plant, operated by Swift & Company.
