No more goodys from Woody’s
YUMA PIONEER, Dec. 14 — There is going to be a hole hard to fill in the stomachs of local diners.
Woody’s Drive-In will be closing its doors for good at the end of business Sunday, Dec. 17, ending a 56-year run in Yuma by the Woody family.
“I need to retire,” said owner/operator Roger Woody, 76. “I have some health issues I need to take care of. It’s hard to operate (the business) and take care of that also.”
Woody’s Drive-In has been a steady presence on Highway 34 since Roger’s father Carl Woody first opened the doors in July 1961.
It was a walk-up restaurant at first. “Kind of like what McDonald’s used to be,” Roger Woody said. The focus was on ice cream and hamburgers. It was open in spring and summer months.
