Council nomination petitions due Jan. 22
    There’s still time to file nomination petitions for Holyoke City Council seats. Petitions are due at the City Clerk’s Office by Monday, Jan. 22.
    Petitions have been filed and signatures verified for Lisa Werts and incumbent council member Gene Bittner. Other current council members whose terms are expiring are Brian Akey and Steve Moore. Both are undecided on whether they will be seeking re-election.
    The election for the three seats for four-year terms will be April 3. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, have resided in Holyoke for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of elections, and be registered to vote. Petitions must be signed by at least 25 registered electors residing in Holyoke.
    
Undergarments collected for Love Undercover
    Creative Traditions is currently collecting undergarments (socks, panties, nightgowns, pajamas, etc.) for women and children as part of the Love Undercover campaign. The items will be delivered to a women’s shelter in Sterling on Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day. All items should be new and in their store packaging. They can be dropped off at 115 S. Holyoke to host honor band concert Monday
    Eleven schools in northeast Colorado will be sending their best musicians to the honor band concert, which is open to the public at the Holyoke High School auditorium Monday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
    Holyoke students — 15 from HHS and 12 from HJHS — make up 20 percent of the honor bands.
    Matthew Dockendorf, assistant director of bands at University of Colorado Boulder, will be directing the high school, while the junior high will be directed by Chris Leonard of Poudre High School.
