JV boys beat Merino 43-28
Holyoke’s JV boys basketball claimed a 43-28 victory in the Jan. 26 evening of Merino competition.
On Jan. 29, both the JV and C team traveled to Julesburg for games with Garden County and Sedgwick County. In JV action, Holyoke won 38-33 against Garden County and lost 45-23 to Sedgwick County.
Holyoke’s C team lost 20-14 to Garden County and 25-16 to Sedgwick County.
Holyoke JV 43, Merino JV 28
The Dragon offense started slow in the first quarter last Friday, making it look like the game would be a close one. Holyoke scored just four points, and Merino scored six.
In each subsequent period, however, HHS scored more points than the last. In the second quarter, Merino still managed to outscore the Dragons and maintained a 16-13 lead at the half.
In the second half, Merino couldn’t keep up. Holyoke added 11 and 19 points in the last two periods. Merino managed only six in each, for a 43-28 win for the home team.
Caleb Deaver led the Dragons with eight points. Jesse Vasa, Fabian Gonzalez and Tyler Lamm each scored six. Alec Sprague and Isaiah Houghtelling scored five apiece. Brandon Nevarez, Jarrett Woodhead and Alejandro Rojas added two apiece, and Aaron Sierra scored one.
