NJC students offer free tax prep assistance
This tax season, Northeastern Junior College is partnering with Denver-based Piton Foundation to help hard-working families become more financially secure by providing free tax preparation services through the Tax Help Colorado program. IRS-certified NJC students will prepare and file tax returns free of charge for individuals with household incomes of less than about $54,000 a year.
In addition to getting their taxes done for free, taxpayers may be eligible for valuable, refundable tax credits like the earned income tax credit and child tax credit. Tax preparers are trained to ensure the families they serve get the best refund possible. The program also helps NJC students develop customer service skills; achieve practical, hands-on experience; serve their community; and earn college credits.
“We are very proud to be actively involved in this wonderful program,” said Jay Lee, president of Northeastern Junior College. “Working with the Piton Foundation gives the college another avenue of service to our community while providing an outstanding learning opportunity for our students.”
This free service will be offered at NJC through April 5 on Thursdays from 3-6 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at NJC, 100 College Ave., Sterling, Phillips Whyman Hall, room 112.
