Temporary ice skating rink here this weekend
Bundle up for free ice skating at the Phillips County Event Center parking lot from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-25. Skates will be provided at the temporary ice rink, courtesy of Heginbotham Trust and Holyoke Chamber of Commerce.
Candidates sought for hospital board
Friday, March 2, at 5 p.m. is the deadline for submitting a self-nomination and acceptance to be a candidate for the May 8 election of the East Phillips County Hospital District board. Three seats are up for election. Incumbents Steve Young, Mike Woodhead and Angela Powell all indicated this week that they have not decided whether they will be seeking re-election.
All ages invited to school book fair
Holyoke Elementary School’s annual book fair will feature books for all ages, including adults. Browse books at the school Monday-Tuesday, March 5-6, from 4-8 p.m. during parent/teacher conferences. Or shop the online catalog from Saturday, Feb. 24-Friday, March 9. Books will be delivered to the school at no charge. Go to www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/findafair. Proceeds from last year helped the school library purchase over 200 new books.
Students have day off Monday
Students in Holyoke will not have class Monday, Feb. 26, due to a teacher inservice.
Chili Cook-Off heats up Regent Park Tuesday
The community is invited to the sixth annual Chili Cook-Off at Regent Park and Carriage House Tuesday, Feb. 27. Submit chili by 4 p.m. Tastings begin at 5 p.m. The winner gets to make a donation to their charity of choice.
