    Beginning July 1, Colorado residents may no longer dispose of most electronic waste in their household trash because Colorado landfills may no longer accept e-waste. The change is the result of a new law, the Electronic Recycling Jobs Act.
    Holyoke was hit with 7.5 inches of snow over the weekend, causing many cancellations around town. The wet, heavy snow began to fall Friday night and continued through Saturday.

    HHS freshman Janna Smith has combined her love of horses with her desire to find a cure for diabetes into an area gymkhana to be held at Haxtun Arena on April 6.
    Twin sisters Victoria and Vanessa Timm, seniors at HHS, have been selected to participate in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State basketball games.
    A new part-time code enforcement officer will be hired this summer to help the police department with ordinance enforcement. The new officer will focus specifically on the weed, junk and animal control ordinances.

    A pilot program featuring a hotline for homework is being utilized by elementary teachers Claudia Koberstein and Lynn Schneider on the Holyoke community line. In the program, the two teachers leave daily messages of homework and classroom activities, and students and parents can obtain homework assignments from these two teachers by calling the hotline at 854-2599.
    Holyoke took first place and was undefeated in the 17th annual Academic Bowl competition, which was held March 20 in Julesburg. Members of the HHS team were senior Brad Krueger, juniors Aaron Bradford and Heather Pfau, and sophomore Matt Gohl, with Vann Manly as their coach and sponsor.
    Approval for expansion of the D&D Farms confinement hog operation to two additional sites in Phillips County was recommended by the Board of Adjustments after a March 24 hearing on the matter. The Phillips County Board of Commissioners was scheduled to vote on the conditional use permit recommendation at its March 31 meeting.

    Dariel Clark, superintendent of Arriba schools for the past five years, has been named superintendent of School District Re-1J for the 1968-69 term.
    Highline Electric Association recently received approval of an REA loan for $2,250,000 to finance projected improvements and expansions of the transmission and distribution system. Much of the projected extension is needed to meet a greatly increased demand for power as a result of pump irrigation development.

    All dried and dehydrated fruits are temporarily removed from rationing, and point values of all fruit and vegetable juices and dehydrated soups are lowered sharply in the first revision of point values under office of price administration’s processed foods rationing program announced Monday.
    After three weeks of winter weather, March wound up with summer temperatures — a maximum of 85 being recorded Monday, with Tuesday only 1 degree cooler.
    With an offering of 75 registered Herefords consigned by 24 breeders of eastern Colorado and western Nebraska, the Midwest Hereford Association is completing preparations for its annual spring sale at the fairgrounds here April 7.
