‘Hooray for Summer’is best of art show
An assortment of mediums were represented in the March 22-25 Phillips County Arts Council Art Show and Sale, and those winning best of show were likewise varied.
Kathryn L. Wernsman of Haxtun entered the first-place best of show, a mixed media piece titled “Hooray for Summer.” Second-place best of show went to Will Ross of Sterling for his charcoal piece, “Honorable Amends.” Lance Wurst of Grant, Nebraska, received third-place best of show for his watercolor, “Kingdom’s Chariot.”
The winning pieces were displayed at the entrance of Holyoke High School throughout the weekend, where all the entries were arranged in the commons area.
Best-of awards were also given in each class. Wernsman also won best of professional for “Beckoning.” Best of advanced went to Leslie Jordan of Holyoke for “Color Struck.” Best of amateur went to Sandra Wright of Haxtun for “Theoretic PenSpectives.”
Among the student entries, first-place best of show went to Kenyon Gaar of Perkins County, Nebraska, for “City Scape.” Allisa Overstreet of Perkins County received second-place best of show for “Study in Primary Colors Mixing Problem.” Anthony Beltran of Holyoke earned third-place best of show for “Lion.”
In the special farm or ranch inspiration category, Sara Bledsoe of Sterling won with “Thrower/Calf.”
The Doris Abbey Memorial Award was given to Mary Carlsen of Paoli for “Yellow Roses.” Frenchman Creek Award went to Jes-c French of Holyoke for “Pyrite.” The people’s choice award went to Wernsman for “Gianna.”
