Girls finish 2nd in Wray

Sprinter, long jumper Taeryn Trumper earns 4 firsts

Area track and field teams were lucky to get a meet on last week’s schedule before the blizzard hit Friday. Wray’s Srsen-Tena Invitational, originally scheduled for Saturday, was bumped up to Thursday, April 12.
Out of 10 teams, Holyoke High School girls placed second with 138.5 points behind Wray’s 165 points.
With eight boys teams competing, Holyoke earned fourth with 68 points. Sedgwick County won the meet.
Although the weather was better than other meets, coach Corey Koberstein said the wind was still a factor.
He praised the athletes for their performances, noting many of them achieved personal bests in Wray. He pointed out that the girls 4x800 meter relay cut off 38 seconds from the Yuma meet just three days earlier.
Sophomore Taeryn Trumper placed first in all four of her events: 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and long jump.
Other first-placers were Emali Torres in shot put and Aaron Sierra in the 100 meter hurdles.
