Donthe Lucas, Kelsie Schelling

Murder trial moves forward

Donthe Lucas, 25, is set to stand trial for the murder of Kelsie Schelling, as Judge Thomas Flesher ruled Thursday, May 31, in Pueblo that there is enough evidence to try Lucas on first-degree murder charges.
According to KRDO-TV, Flesher made his decision quickly after the attorneys’ closing statements, saying the decision was “clear.”
Lucas has been in custody since November 2017 and remains in jail without bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 28.
Schelling has been missing for over five years, and Lucas has long been considered a suspect in her disappearance. On the last day she was seen, Schelling was said to have driven to Pueblo from her home in Denver to tell Lucas, her boyfriend at the time, that she was eight weeks pregnant. Schelling’s body has yet to be found.
