Haxtun Schools awarded $2.3 million cash grant for re-roof and HVAC system
HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, June 27 — Over the past few weeks, the Haxtun School District has been awarded more than $2.3 million in grants from the Building Excellent Schools Today program and from the Department of Local Affairs.
According to information from School Superintendent Darcy Garretson, BEST has awarded the district a $2.3 million cash grant, which will provide the bulk of founds needed to re-roof the elementary and high school portions of the building. Additionally, it will pay for a new HVAC system in the high school and gym portions of the system. It will also allow the new system to be connected to the one used in the elementary and middle school now.
The BEST grant will also provide money for new, more efficient lighting in the high school as well as some weather-proofing to increase energy efficiency throughout the building. The ag shop will get a new roof and HVAC system, including improved air quality, as well as new lighting, doors and other weather-proofing and energy-efficient measures.

Regional coalition completes first year
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, June 26 — The Northeast Regional Healthcare Coalition faced challenges in its first year, according to Kyle Moulton, who serves as its chair.
The coalition is formed from agencies throughout the region that are involved in emergency preparedness. Moulton, who is the director of Logan County’s Office of Emergency Management, said the formation of healthcare coalitions was driven by a change in state funding, but the 11-county region didn’t have a lot of time to put the organization together.
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s website, the groups are a key requirement in the Hospital Preparedness Program and “reflect the unique needs and characteristics of local jurisdictions.”
