Colorado pays Kansas $4M
    YUMA PIONEER, Aug. 9 — Colorado has reached a $4 million settlement with Kansas to settle claims tied to Colorado’s past use of water under the Republican River Compact with Kansas and Nebraska.
    The agreement was announced by state officials last Friday. It is intended to end past disputes over Colorado’s water usage and move the states toward more cooperative management of water.
    Under the agreement, Colorado will pay Kansas $2 million and put an additional $2 million into compliance efforts.

How much is an eye worth? An ear?
    JULESBURG ADVOCATE, Aug. 10 — When you dissect a 1,200-pound market beef at an auction, how much is each part worth? When it is to raise money for a local teen, the left eye sold for $650 to Revere School, and the left ear went for $750 and was purchased by Bruce and Shirley Gerk. Butch Stone paid $500 for the nose, while Custom Performance Feed bought the head for $700.
    Overall, selling a hoof here and a tail there, more than $11,000 was raised for Randi Rober and her family. Since Sunday’s annual 4-H/FFA livestock sale, that amount has continued to rise.
