Football season begins Friday against Haxtun
Though the Holyoke-Haxtun rivalry runs deep, the 11-man and eight-man football teams rarely have the opportunity to face off. This year, the Holyoke High School football season kicks off at home this Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. with just such a game.
HHS football is led by 14 returning letterwinners. They are seniors Trent Huffman, Chase Beckner and Jesus Trejo; juniors Caleb Deaver, Andrew Rivera, Alexis Vega, Hunter Bergstrom, Seth Watson, Slaten Burris, Michael Ramos, Blake Mosenteen and Luis Chafino; and sophomores Joey Beckner and Ethan Andersen.
Once again, the team is under the direction of head coach Dusty Sprague, who’s excited to have so many athletes returning to the team this year. Last year’s team was pretty young, he said, but the experience of the returning players should help this year’s team. Sprague also said they’re “looking to improve on all areas of the game.”
