What happened to the traffic lights?
At the request of City Superintendent Mark Brown and Mayor Orville Tonsing, the State of Colorado removed one of two traffic lights on both the north and south sides of the intersection of Denver Street and Interocean Avenue in Holyoke.
Brown said having multiple lights was confusing to northbound and southbound drivers, who were led to believe that right-turn lanes existed at the intersection. The City believes the change in signaling will reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers trying to make simultaneous right turns onto Denver Street.
