Does your baby sleep in a box?
The Best Start Program is providing baby boxes free of charge to all Colorado parents and caregivers. They can be picked up from Baby Bear Hugs in Morgan, Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma counties. There are additional parenting goodies with each box and an opportunity to participate in research surveys for prizes.
What is a baby box? It is a sturdy cardboard bassinet with a safe, firm mattress. Baby boxes meet the same safety standards as bassinets and are designed for babies up to 6 months of age.
Baby boxes began in Finland over 75 years ago to reduce their high rates of SIDS deaths. Finland now has one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world, thanks to the safe sleep education shared with the baby boxes delivered at the birth of every child.
