Dragons swim final invite at Scottsbluff
Holyoke High School swam at the Twin City Invite in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, last Saturday, Jan. 19. The event was the last invite of the season and included five top three finishes for the girls team.
Coach Aly Brinkema said one focus of the meet was encouraging swimmers to try unfamiliar events and enjoy new competition.
“The team overall is extremely tired and in the perfect position to finish the last week of hard training before we taper for Conference (Feb. 1-2) and 3A State (Feb. 7-9),” she said.
McCook, Nebraska, took first overall in girls with 331 points, followed by North Platte, Nebraska, 281, Scottsbluff/Gering, Nebraska, 248 and Holyoke 178.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Rylee Schneller took second in 1:09.27.
Schneller, Haley Van Overbeke, Lali Marquez and Traeli Hutches placed third in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:05.36, with Eva Kramer, Jackie Valenzuela, Demiah Hernandez and Josie Schlachter fifth 2:38.57.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Hernandez took third in 1:17.69 and Kramer sixth 1:42.75.
Hernandez also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:31.15.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Hutches took third in 1:22.69.
Marquez placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:39.84 and Hutches fifth 2:45.52.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Schneller, Van Overbeke, Marquez and Hutches placed fourth in 1:55.13.
Van Overbeke placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.52. Marquez took seventh 1:03.65, Valenzuela 10th 1:10.53 and Schlachter 11th 1:10.56.
Finally, in the 50-yard freestyle, Schneller placed sixth in 0:27.71, Schlachter 11th 0:31.03 and Valenzuela 12th 0:31.32.
