Dani Brandt, swimming on the Grand Canyon University club swim team in Phoenix, Arizona, competed at the 2019 FINIS College Club Swimming National Championship at McCorkle Aquatic Center in Columbus, Ohio, March 29-31.
Brandt was one of nine women and five men from GCU who qualified for and swam at the meet, which included 120 teams and 2,180 swimmers. In the very first race of the weekend, Brandt was on the 800 freestyle relay. The team won its heat and placed 17th overall, taking 30 seconds off its time.
Individually, Brandt swam the 50 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Other relays she swam on were the 400 medley, 200 medley, 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Brandt took time off of all but one event that she swam last weekend, and GCU took home 18 new individual records and 10 new school relay records. At nationals, GCU’s women’s team finished 34th, and the men’s team placed 37th.
Brandt is a 2016 Holyoke High School graduate and the daughter of Jerry and Debbie Brandt.
