Competition runs high in HHS golf

    “We have some tough competition not only in the league but among ourselves as well,” said coach Nick Flaa of the Holyoke High School girls golf team. The Dragons traveled to Smoky River Golf Course in Cheyenne Wells last Friday, April 5. As a team, HHS finished third, and members continue to jockey for the four varsity positions.
    Playing varsity for this particular meet, Brenna Sullivan tied for fifth place with a 92, and Traeli Hutches tied for ninth with a 100. Amy Mackay also returned to varsity action shooting a 111. All three were personal bests. Emily Chaney played her first ever varsity round, carding 118.
    Flaa did note that part of the reason for lower scores was that the course itself is much shorter than what the team typically plays. Nevertheless, he explained, “It’s still golf, and you still have to execute the shots.”
