Trumper tops 100 meter, long jump at Akron meet
Holyoke trackster Taeryn Trumper led the pack at the Akron Invitational last Saturday, April 27, taking home the gold in both the 100 meter dash and long jump events.
Trumper earned a season best time of :12.63 in the 100, cutting two-tenths of a second off the previous week’s time.
Coach Corey Koberstein said Trumper was a great asset for the team, which was challenged by injuries and the promise of prom later that night.
He also highlighted the subs who stepped in to replace the team’s hurt relay racers. While all of the injuries sustained were minor — “bumps and bruises” — Koberstein said they were still significant enough Saturday to put the team in a tight spot.
“The kids who stepped up to fill the gaps in the relays did a really great job,” he said. “No one complained, and they just did what they had to do to help the relay team place.”
