Last time I gave you a list of 50 fun things to do in Holyoke. This week, we’re taking it up a notch! Here are 50 fun things to do in the northeast Colorado and southwest Nebraska region.
These are almost all within two hours of Holyoke, so they would make perfect day trips or evening outings. I don’t want to hear any excuses because I’ve included options for all ages, all budgets and all adventure levels. Pick a couple to try before the summer gets away!
Please check online for times and availability before heading out. Have fun exploring!

    50. Head to Ogallala, Nebraska, to see Front Street, a replica of an Old West town with a restaurant, general store, cowboy museum and the Crystal Palace Revue show in the summer.
    49. For only 25 cents you can ride the hand-carved historic 1905 Kit Carson County Carousel in Burlington.
    48. Pack a picnic, grab your fishing pole and take a short drive to the Champion Lake State Recreation Area in Nebraska.
    47. If it’s a cooler day, consider a hike on the Pawnee Buttes trail in northeast Weld County. It’s a bit of a drive, but the 300-foot-tall twin geologic formations are worth it.
    46. Ask Creative Traditions in Holyoke how to start a Row by Row quilt and then travel to nearby stores to collect more quilt block patterns.
    45. Drive to Alliance, Nebraska, to see Carhenge, a unique replica of England’s Stonehenge. You have to see it to believe it!
    44. Go kayaking or canoeing down a river in Nebraska. Or for something more low key, try tanking!
    43. Ladies, shop to your little heart’s content at The Turquoise Chandelier in Paoli.
    42. Experience the nighttime firefly tour at Tomky Fish Farms near Weldona. You won’t see fireflies quite like this anywhere else.
    41. Dig your toes in the sand during Lake McConaughy’s Kites and Castles event Saturday, July 27.
    40. Hike to the crest of Windlass Hill at Ash Hollow State Historical Park near Lewellen, Nebraska, to see deep ruts carved by thousands of covered wagons on the Oregon Trail. There’s also a historical pageant and chuck wagon supper every year in June.
    39. Learn about the 1868 Battle of Beecher Island by visiting the historic site near Wray. There’s an annual reunion every September too.
    38. Arrange for a tour of the carnival rides built at Wisdom Rides in Merino.
