“The Follies, in Comedy Wedding Revue” was put on at the Holyoke High School auditorium Nov. 4-5, 1926, given under auspices of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. This was a unique comedy staged by more than 60 prominent Holyoke business and professional men — many portraying female characters.     Exceeding all expectations after a July 23 whipple procedure, Holyoke’s Brett Cumming, who turns 20 on Aug. 2, now prepares for a liver transplant in the near future.
    After eight years as treasurer and member of the Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation board of directors, Nancy Colglazier has accepted the position of MMHF executive director, effective July 21.
    Ron Goldenstein is launching his new business venture, the I Hate Collection, featuring mugs and T-shirts with his “I spade” registered trademark.
    The inaugural Color Me for Hunger Free Fun Run was held July 26. Around 75 runners and walkers participated to raise approximately $2,000 for the student council’s Backpack Program at Holyoke schools.

    Holyoke Elementary Principal Jennifer Kral resigned July 21, accepting a position as principal at Beaver Valley Elementary in Brush.
    On Aug. 7, Brian Gales will begin a new chapter in his banking career when he takes over as president of Bank of the West in Holyoke. He fills the position left by the retirement of John Schneider.
    Twelve workers representing Africa, Brazil, Ukraine, Russia and the Philippines have had the opportunity to live in Holyoke the past several months and experience the swine industry at Seaboard Foods through the Worldwide Farmers Exchange program.

    Geneva Hassler was recently recognized by the HHS Alumni Association for 34 years of service. Hassler said that 34 years ago she was elected temporary treasurer, a position which became very permanent.
    Twin sisters Lanelle and Janelle Krueger and 12 Lutheran Laymen’s League teammates recently spent two weeks helping to rebuild the Lutheran high school in Tisovec, a small village in central Slovakia.

    Today (Thursday) Dr. Myrlen Chesnut assumed the practice of Dr. Paul Gregory, who will begin a residency at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha.
    The Phillips County Fair will have an extra attraction this year. Miss Colorado of 1969, Adria Easton, will have an honored place in the parade and will perform during the evening festivities.
    On the morning of July 26 in the parking lot in back of Carl’s Tavern, the police found a migrant worker that had been stabbed several times with a knife. After being treated by Dr. Roark, he was then transferred to Logan County Hospital in Sterling, where he is recovering satisfactorily.

Aug. 3, 1944

    Hundreds of Phillips County men serving their country overseas will be allowed to vote in the November general election under the emergency war voting act, which was enacted at the last session of the state legislature. Special lightweight ballots will be printed for all qualified residents of the county who make application.
    A rainstorm accompanied by an intense electrical display struck Phillips County shortly before dark Tuesday evening. As the storm crossed from west to east, rain fell in torrents which in the Paoli community reached cloud-burst proportions. In Paoli, basements and cellars were flooded by the water coming too fast to run off as normal rains do.
    Infestation of a new type of insect, known as the earwig, has been found near north Denver. The earwigs were first brought to the state in 1919 with a load of lumber from Portland, Oregon, but since 1937 there have been no reports of the insects in Colorado.
    The vacancy in the office of postmaster of Holyoke, which occurred upon the death of T.H. Hargreaves on June 29, has been filled by the appointment of F.B. Flanagan as acting postmaster, effective Aug. 1.
