June Marvin

Thelma June Marvin, 89, of Golden, died Sept. 24, 2019, in Haxtun. June was born June 30, 1930, to Hazel and Thomas Marvin. Her birth certificate said she was the youngest of a set of twins, but actually June was 15 minutes older than her brother, Thomas Marvin, “Junior.” June was born in her grandmother’s house in Haxtun, following the tragic death of her father and older brother.

Her mother moved the family to Golden prior to marrying her stepfather, who also had a set of twins who were six months younger. Avery and Hazel Mackey and their children moved several times prior to settling back in Golden, where June graduated from Lakewood High School in 1949.

June worked as a secretary for W. H. Kissler in Denver, retiring after 29 years of service. June moved to the Haxtun ECU in February of 2019, where she met many new people, including the caring staff. June was elected the 2019 Corn Festival ECU queen.

June enjoyed traveling many places with her nieces and nephews, and one of her favorite memories was ordering a ham and cheese sandwich on a ferry trip to Canada where they promptly brought her two — one ham and one cheese. June loved going to the movies, bowling and playing bingo, in addition to seeing her extended family. June was a loving, caring aunt to all of her family, and she will be missed greatly.

June was preceded in death by her parents, three bothers, three sisters, three nephews and one niece.

June is survived by three nephews and many great-, great-great- and great-great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at Haxtun United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating. Burial followed at the Haxtun Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Haxtun ECU.

Arrangements were directed by Baucke Funeral Home.
