Jeffers puts a whole lotta love in her bags for trick-or-treaters

Making up for lost years when she lived in the country and had no trick-or-treaters, Holyoke’s Margie Jeffers now calls Halloween her favorite holiday.

“I just love to get kids’ stuff ready for Halloween,” said Jeffers last week as she eyed her multiple bag stuffers.

Including everything from bubbles to glasses, gold-colored coins, racing spiders, clacking teeth and candy, of course, her goodie bags for 70 trick-or-treaters are a work in progress as the holiday approaches.

At 98 years young, Jeffers said trick-or-treating wasn’t a thing when she was a youngster. It wasn’t until she moved to town 12 years ago that she started making treat bags for the kids.

She’s doing her best to make up for the lost years, and trick-or-treaters hit the jackpot when they stop by Jeffers’ home.

“The little kids are so cute. They come in the darndest costumes,” she said last week.
