Second suspect in pursuit arrested

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Oct. 17 — The Logan County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that the second suspect wanted following a vehicle pursuit Sunday has been apprehended.

According to the sheriff’s office, Shaun Miner, 25, was arrested at 827 Clark Street, in Sterling.

Miner was a passenger in a vehicle that was contacted for a traffic violation in the 700 block of Clark Street on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 13. As a sheriff’s deputy attempted to shut off the vehicle, another passenger, Randall Palmer, 33, moved to the driver’s seat, put the vehicle into gear and accelerated, dragging the deputy for several feet. The deputy was uninjured.

NextEra briefs county on ‘repower’ wind turbine upgrades

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Oct. 16 — NextEra Energy Resources will begin a six-month project next year to upgrade 214 wind turbines in the Peetz Table and Northern Colorado wind farms.

Alsey Davidson, lead project manager for the upgrade, briefed the Logan County Commissioners Wednesday morning on what NextEra calls a “repowering” project. The upgrades will be to replace blades on the turbines with longer blades, and replacing some components on some of the generator turbines.

Of the towers included in the repower project, 66 were manufactured by Siemans and 148 were manufactured by General Electric. On the Peetz Table project, 133 GE towers will have the old 253-foot blades be replaced with blades 299 feet in length. On the Northern Colorado project, 66 Siemans units will have 305-foot blades replaced with 354-foot blades, and the 15 GE units will receive the new 299-foot blades.

New fiber network partnering with Allo

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Oct. 17 — At an Allo After Hours gathering Friday, an announcement was made that will bring fiber internet to the community.

While Allo’s headquarters is located in Imperial, Nebraska, Allo has never offered services in the community for a variety of reasons.

In addition, no fiber-to-the-home network to deliver their services existed in Imperial. A group of local businessmen decided to change that after experiencing challenges with slow and lagging internet.

Ben Brophy, Bill Brophy, Russ Pankonin and John Paisley make up the new fiber network company, Gigabit.
