MMH lab director updates board

Board of Directors of the East Phillips County Hospital District began the Tuesday, Nov. 5, meeting with a report from Dan Lakandili, laboratory director at Melissa Memorial Hospital.

He gave them an update on the change to the lab information system and was also pleased to report the lab passed its inspection this year.

The direct access blood draws offered to the community on Fridays have definitely given the lab a busier schedule on Fridays, Lakandili said.

He also warned the board that the lab will be requesting two new instruments in the 2020 budget, and while it will be a big expense, it’s quite necessary due to the age of the current equipment in the lab.

The board also heard from MMH CEO Trampas Hutches. Among the celebrations at the hospital, Hutches was excited about how recruiting efforts have been going. He told the board that MMH has been benefiting from highly talented employees, with about one-third of the positions being filled through internal promotions. Another benefit is that MMH is bringing in more people to the community, he added.
