Workplace Warriors

One year they are standing at attention, following orders, serving their country and even defending the front lines. The next year they are back home, harvesting the fields, clocking in at the office, making sales calls and driving to the next construction site.

The same qualities that made them good servicemen and women are making them good employees. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the 18.7 million veterans in the United States, nearly 9.2 million are currently in the civilian labor force. That’s a 49 percent participation rate.

Veterans in the workplace are the highlight of this year’s new special section called the Workforce Salute. Many local veterans bring a unique perspective to their jobs in Phillips County, and The Holyoke Enterprise salutes them and all the other employees that give the county a thriving and vibrant workforce.
