Changes proposed at Nebraska’s overcrowded Lake McConaughy

Make comments online or at Jan. 16 open house

Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area near Ogallala, Nebraska, hosted an unprecedented number of visitors in 2018 and 2019, which stressed both park infrastructure and resources, and local public safety resources.

In response, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is partnering with Keith County, Nebraska, commissioners, local public safety officials and the general public on a proposed plan to reduce crowding and create higher quality experiences for all at Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala SRAs.

A public open house is set for Thursday, Jan. 16, from 3-6 p.m. MST at the Lake McConaughy Visitor and Water Interpretive Center, 1475 Highway 61 North, Ogallala.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is also accepting questions and public comments regarding proposed management changes at outdoornebraska.gov/lake macchanges.
