A new year means new people serving on City committees
Often working quietly behind the scenes, there are many unsung community members that volunteer their time to serve alongside Holyoke City Council members on committees.
These individuals are appointed by the city council, and the new year has seen some new assignments. Depending on the committee, terms may be as short as one year or as long as six. Those terms also expire in different months, depending on the committee, but several changes typically happen at the end of the year and during the summer.
For those community members interested in knowing who is making the decisions of these City committees, the current members of each follow:
— Planning Commission members: Gordon Hielscher, Jerry Banaka, Derek Roberts and Terri Biersdorfer with ex officio members Kevin Scott and Mayor Orville Tonsing and City clerk/treasurer Kathy Olofson as secretary.
— Board of Variance Adjustment: Scott, Jason Redman, Jerry Beavers and Luke Goldenstein with ex officio member Brian Akey and secretary Olofson.
