Legacy Event auction a chance to give back in unique way
When someone buys an item at an auction, they would generally expect to take something home with them. In the case of Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Legacy Event, two very special auction items will give people the chance to give back to their community.
Included on the Feb. 8 list of auction items will be a Stryker Prime TC Transport Chair. An individual or group of people will have the opportunity to bid on this item and then in turn donate it back to Melissa Memorial Hospital.
The foundation gave each MMH department a chance to submit an application for an item that would be beneficial for the department, and the transport chair was selected by the MMHF board to be on the live auction.
Director of Nursing Julianne Kramer said in the nursing department’s application that the transport chair will help patients to be transported safely and efficiently to departments for treatment and testing.
“This chair provides efficient maneuverability with large turning wheels and easy-to-use components. Some of the important components include an IV pole, location on the back of the chair to transport an oxygen tank, easy-to-use folding foot pedals and arm rest fold-up for efficiency of transferring patients. This wheelchair is easy to clean, too, for infection control purposes,” she said.
As a bonus, another item was chosen by the MMHF board to be on the Legacy Event silent auction. MMHF is giving everyone attending and all the MMH staff and community a chance to share in providing patients with new dishes, cups and trays.
Sue Razo, MMH dietary manager, said that they have had the same dishes for 10 years or more, and over time the plastic dishes wear down or break. Sometimes the styles are discontinued, and finding matching sets is hard.
