Red’s Liquors welcomed new owners this week when Ozzy and Misty Torres bought the liquor store from Jeff and Olga Sullivan. The sale of the business was official March 16, and they are also in the process of purchasing the building, located at 140 E. Denver St.
Returning to the state basketball tournament in Pueblo for the second year in a row, the Holyoke boys basketball team posted a 2-1 record to win the 2A consolation championship.

HHS boys basketball head coach John Baumgartner picked up his 250th win as head coach after the Dragons beat Calhan in the regional championship game March 6.
Jack Geist was recently honored for 60 years of continuous service to the American Legion. He received a certificate from Shirley Kadlec of American Legion Post 90 in Holyoke for the honor.
Holyoke High School won the 2A Colorado State boys basketball championship March 13 with a 55-38 win over Ignacio in the state finals.

Grand opening festivities are being planned at Sullivan’s Appliance and Air this Saturday. Jeff and Olga Sullivan assumed ownership of the local business Sept. 1, 1994, and moved it to 206 N. Interocean Ave.
Melissa Memorial Hospital is one of six hospitals to be the initial recipients of VTEL Corporation videoconferencing equipment. High Plains Health Network, of which MMH is a member, and its telemedicine branch are planning to use the equipment for telemedicine.

Holyoke residents were greeted Wednesday morning with 8 inches of snow that began falling Tuesday evening and at this writing had reached a depth of 10-12 inches and was still snowing.
Amherst citizens watched their former school building being sold at auction on March 14. Built in 1918 to replace the three small buildings originally used by the Amherst Consolidated School District, the sturdy brick building had been both school and community center for nearly 50 years.

Distribution lines of the Highline Electric Association that now carry electric power to 1,800 consumers in this territory may have another important function after the war. They may be used as telephone lines, according to a letter from the Rural Electrification Administration discussing the possibility and outlining the progress that has been made toward utilizing power distribution lines as voice carriers.
Colorado Challenger is the grand champion steer of the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show held in Fort Worth, Texas, March 9-18. This Otto Fulscher steer, a son of TO-bred Dan Domino 32nd, progressed steadily through stiff competition to capture the supreme award.
