Clean up animal waste — it’s the law

Perhaps it’s obvious to some that owners should clean up after their dogs in public places such as the park, but did you know that the City of Holyoke also requires owners to remove animal waste from their own private property as well?

Sec. 6.04.030.
Removal of animal waste required.

(a) The owner or custodian of any animal shall be responsible for the immediate removal of any feces deposited by such animal on any property, public or private, not owned or exclusively occupied by the owner or keeper.

(b) The owner or keeper of any animal shall also be responsible for the periodic removal of feces deposited by such animal on property owned or exclusively occupied by such owner or keeper. Failure to comply with this subsection shall be deemed a nuisance and may be abated as such.

(c) Nothing in this section shall apply to cats.
