Good gifts

The other night before bed, I laid down with my oldest daughter, Rebekah, and I wrestled with a question: “Does God desire to give us good gifts?”

I thought about all the good gifts I want to give Rebekah as my child. And it was as if a light bulb went off in my heart.

God was showing me that just as I want to give her the best, God wants to give me good things too. As his child, he is always considering my best interest — not just in material things that I need but also emotionally and spiritually.

Why do I doubt his promises and his provisions?

I’m like a seesaw when I should be steady. I’m not always good at trusting him. I think of Matthew 7:9: “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?”
