Adam Powell

Adam John Powell was born April 27, 1981, in Atwood, Kansas. He died Sept. 21, 2020.

Adam grew up in McDonald, Kansas, and attended Cheylin elementary and high school, graduating in 1999. After high school, Adam attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, on a football scholarship for one season before returning to Colby Community College.

Adam was a cook at heart and began cooking at various restaurants before opening his own bar and grill in Atwood called the Corner Pocket. Adam moved to Holyoke in 2015 to be closer to his parents and brother where he continued his love of cooking, working for Bill Pelle at Blisties.

Adam also enjoyed helping his brother and sister-in-law’s family during harvest, running grain cart and working summer fallow. Adam was also an avid golfer and spent many hours on the course with friends and family, including his nephews, Mason and Riley. Adam had a kind and gentle soul and was a friend to anyone who met him.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Powell.

He is survived by his mother, Claudia Powell of Holyoke; brother, Aaron and wife Angela of Holyoke; two nephews, Mason and Riley Powell; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The memorial service was held Oct. 3 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating, and was livestreamed on Baucke Funeral Home and Monuments’ Facebook page. Inurnment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Adam Powell Memorial.

Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
