Brianna Farnes is offering art therapy-based sessions at Enchanted Moments Art and Photography in Holyoke. While Farnes is not art therapy certified, she has much experience from an art internship and special needs art camp, and she is essentially self-taught, having read many books on art therapy techniques and practices.
Lighthouse Real Estate has added a third member to its team. Derek Russell, a broker associate, will be working with the business with a focus on agriculture properties. Russell, who lives in Imperial, Nebraska, works with ag listings with Colson Agency in Imperial, and after recently earning his real estate license in Colorado, he will now incorporate ag sales in northeast Colorado through Lighthouse Real Estate.
Jon King was presented the All-Star BOCES Award from Northeast BOCES Executive Director Bret Miles at the Oct. 20 meeting of the Re-1J Board of Education. There are 21 Board of Cooperative Educational Services units in the state, and four members of those boards were selected for the awards. King has represented the Holyoke School Board on the BOCES board for four years.

Medical marijuana dispensaries and grow operations within Holyoke city limits will be prohibited following the city council’s vote to adopt the ordinance at their Oct. 19 meeting. The vote was on a first reading of the ordinance and will be voted upon again after a public hearing at the Nov. 3 meeting.
Phillips County precincts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8 will vote at Phillips County Event Center in Holyoke, while precincts 5, 6 and 7 will vote at the Haxtun Community Center for the Nov. 2 election.
A new blue recycling bin was dropped off Oct. 22 just outside the city offices in Holyoke. A second bin will be located in Haxtun, and a third will be used when a bin needs to be emptied. The recycling bins come as part of a Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity Fund grant, facilitated by Haxtun students and teacher Alan Nall in collaboration with Holyoke student leadership, Holyoke Recycles and the towns of Haxtun and Holyoke.

Phillips County has hired a family therapist to provide counseling services for Human Services and the general populous — again. The counselor hired by the county in April repeatedly postponed his start date, and the search for a therapist began again in July. Director of Human Services Linda Renquist said she is excited now that Douglas Hatfield is coming to Phillips County to start Dec. 1.
Kathy Aaro, P.T., is currently seeing patients at Physical Therapy Clinic of Holyoke, announced Melissa Memorial Hospital Administrator Ace Thacker.
On Oct. 21, Gary Sporhase was inducted into the Colorado Truck and Tractor Pullers Association Hall of Fame.
HHS senior Jessica Koch captured the 1A-4A state championship in uneven parallel bars at the state meet in Loveland last Saturday, Oct. 28, giving Holyoke its first state championship in any gymnastics event.

A record 1,007 electors of Re-1J school district went to the polls Oct. 27 and defeated the $95,000 bond issue proposed by the Re-1J school board to build a new high school building, with 730 against and 277 for the bond issue.
A new Brownie Girl Scout troop with 18 members has been formed in Holyoke, with Mrs. Don Reuter and Mrs. Frank Paloucek as leaders.
Mary Louise Evans, Phillips County clerk, lists the following polling places for the Nov. 3 general election in Phillips County: Precinct 1, Holyoke Catholic Church basement; Precinct 2, Amherst fire hall; Precinct 3, Phillips County Court House community room; Precinct 4, Holyoke library basement; Precinct 5, Paoli Town Hall; Precinct 6, Haxtun IOOF hall; and Precinct 7, Haxtun Hospital Annex.

In a meeting of the Holyoke Golf Club on Friday night, an agreement was made whereby members of the club would purchase the pasture land in the northeast part of town as a permanent grounds for the Holyoke Golf Club. The land was being offered for sale as a part of the Cora Shafer estate. A deal was closed Tuesday for the entire property comprising 123 acres, more or less.
Mrs. Inez Johnson Lewis, state superintendent of public instruction, stated Monday morning that a few over 300 schools in the state have failed to open this fall because of lack of teachers and that over 2,000 teachers who do not usually teach are in the school rooms. The 300 schools represent about 3,000 school children, but they are going to school in other districts.
Because of the number of deaths and injuries during the present hunting season, and also because of the number of murders in the state the last few months, a movement is being sponsored by a group of citizens asking that the Sullivan Gun Carrying Law be enacted in Colorado. The law provides that every person who carries a gun must have a permit from some judge of a court of record in the community in which he lives. He must also secure a permit to purchase the gun, and a record of the purchase would be made permanent for officials.
