Writing down your 1,000 blessings

Years ago, a friend encouraged me to begin writing down my blessings in a journal. Not just 10 blessings, but 1,000. She had read the book “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp. It had deeply impacted her, and I decided I wanted to implement the same practice. Today, I’m only at about 200 or so written blessings in my journal, but I’m getting there!
The reason this practice has been so powerful for me is because in my selfish nature, I don’t always count my blessings. I’m not always grateful or thankful. I tend to focus on the negative and not the positive. Perhaps, you can relate. We don’t always hit the floor in the morning singing praises. Some days it’s all we can do to get out of bed!
The year 2020 has brought challenges we didn’t expect. In times like these, it’s far too easy to wallow in our struggles and become bitter — to focus on all the pain and heartache. It’s easy to coast and not reflect on all that God has given in times of loss.
