Robert Halbert

Robert Lynn Halbert was born May 26, 1931, in Prairie View, Kansas, to Raymond Clarence and Emma Leone (Dieleman) Halbert. He died Dec. 28, 2020, at his home in Holyoke, with his family at his side. Robert was 89 years old.
Robert served his country in the United States Navy as a 2nd class gunner’s mate in charge of the two 5”/38 gun mounts on the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War from 1950-1954.
He married Wilma Loraine (Bailey) Halbert on Sept. 20, 1958. Robert and Wilma spent over 62 years together before Wilma’s death on Nov. 12, 2020.
Robert began his working career at the young age of 7, working for the local grocery store candling eggs. Later on, he spent numerous years as a truck driver and a barber.
Robert loved to garden, and he enjoyed woodworking and building things with his hands.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Halbert; parents, Raymond and Emma Halbert; and brothers, Ted Halbert and Lyle Halbert.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Diana and spouse Bill Dewey of Washington; son, Michael Halbert and spouse Andria of Utah; son, Scott Halbert and spouse Cindy of Colorado; daughter, Tracie and spouse Rich Darbin of Oklahoma; son, Rod Halbert and spouse Angie of Colorado; sister, Helen Karls of Kansas; brother, Howard Halbert and spouse Ethel of Colorado; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church of Holyoke with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Holyoke Cemetery.
Baucke Funeral Home will direct the service.
