Schroetlin named county planner, administrator

Laura Schroetlin officially began her duties as Phillips County administrator/planner on Jan. 28. The position was held by Pam Jensen until Jan. 22.

“County personnel have been very supportive,” Schroetlin said. “I’ve been very appreciative of that. I enjoy working with them all, and I think together we can do great things for Phillips County.”

Schroetlin started working for the county in August 2010 as a part-time administration secretary. She then worked as an administrative assistant, interim administrator and deputy administrator prior to taking her current position.

Before beginning her work with the county in 2010, Schroetlin was associated with the Peerless Theatre for 10 years, some of which she spent as director and as a board member.

She said she has always been a numbers person and thought working with the county would be a great fit for her. Her responsibilities include payroll and accounts payable duties as well as being the budget manager for the county.

Schroetlin said she is looking forward to continuing to work closely with the county commissioners and other county employees, adding that her experience working for the county should make for a pretty painless transition.

“We have great commissioners who are easy to work with, and I have a good working relationship with them and the other elected officials and department heads,” she said.

Schroetlin has roots in Holyoke, where her great-grandparents lived. She is a 1975 graduate of Holyoke High School and is active in First Baptist Church.

She and her husband Mark have two sons, Curt of Holyoke and the late Josh. Their daughters-in-law Amber and Laura Beth live in Woodland Park and Holyoke, respectively. They have three grandchildren in Woodland Park and three in Holyoke.

In her free time, Schroetlin enjoys doing activities with her family, including camping, going to Enders Lake and attending Colorado Rockies games.
