Local wrestling tournament draws 225 competitors
While scheduling of matches veered from a typical wrestling tournament, action at the Holyoke Youth Tournament at the Phillips County Event Center on Saturday, April 10, drew a solid crowd of participants and fans.
A total of 225 wrestlers competed, including 35 from Holyoke. While some teams had only one participant, there were 36 teams represented in the tourney. Up to six mats were used at one time.
Action started with the full 6 and under tournament, followed by 8 and under, then 10 and under, 12 and under, 4 and under, and 15 and under. This allowed some participants and fans to come for only a portion of the tourney to help monitor crowd numbers.
Parents and coaches deserve credit for the efficiency of organization seen for not only manning the match tables, but also the award hand-out, registration, and meals and snacks.
Coaches for the Holyoke wrestlers include Eric Luedke, Jim Sharp, Jake Adler, Brady Dirks, Morgan Eurich and Luke Garrett.
