Look for new license designs this fall

Colorado drivers will soon have newly-designed driver’s licenses after the Iconic Colorado contest concluded with the selection of winners for designs for both the front and back of the license. The new designs are scheduled to debut this fall.

According to the website for the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles, the goal of the contest was to transform Colorado’s driver’s licenses into the most beautiful in the world.

The contest was open Aug. 17-Oct. 30, 2020, and accepted submissions from anyone living or studying in Colorado.

A total of 280 submissions for the front design and 127 for the back were received from 119 entrants.

A committee made up of Gov. Jared Polis, motor vehicle administrators and artists selected the three finalists for each side of the license. The public then voted on the winners among the finalists. Over 55,000 votes were counted Feb. 5 to determine the winners.
