Volleyball girls are statebound
For the first time since the fall of 2000, Holyoke volleyball will head to the state tournament after defeating both No. 17 Telluride and No. 8 Vail Mountain in straight sets in regional action Saturday, May 1.
No. 7 Holyoke will play No. 2 Denver Christian at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs.
The winner of the match will meet the winner of No. 3 Sedgwick County and No. 6 Dayspring Christian Academy on Thursday, May 13, at 8 a.m.
Also on Wednesday, No. 1 Wiggins will play No. 8 Yuma and No. 4 Fowler will play No. 5 Vail Christian. Winners will meet in the semifinals Thursday, May 13, at 8 a.m. The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. that evening.
Coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said she is very happy to see the girls continue to play aggressively and minimize errors — and she feels they haven’t played their best game yet.
“I’m very excited for the girls,” she said. “They keep getting better and better each week. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Vieselmeyer pointed to the state tournament bracket and acknowledged that a total of four teams from the Lower Platte league qualified for state, illustrating just how competitive the league is and how much tough competition Holyoke has faced already this season.
