Enterprise claims 4 Colorado awards

The work of The Holyoke Enterprise staff members was recently recognized at a state level. The newspaper won four awards in the Colorado Press Association’s 2020 Better News Media Contest.

Results were announced at a virtual ceremony Thursday, May 20, as part of CPA’s two-day online convention.

Jes-c French won first place in the sports photograph contest for her mutton bustin’ photo from the Phillips County Fair, which was published in the Enterprise on July 30, 2020. The judge said, “Good job with the kid rodeo catching a kid about to get dirty! Technical quality is good and the interest is high.”

French also won second place in the same category with a photo from the ranch rodeo at the Phillips County Fair, published Aug. 6, 2020. The judge said, “Rodeo action is a good job. Plenty of action with the ropers eyeing the target. Technical quality is good.”

Darci Rodriguez earned second place in the informational graphic category for an annual precipitation graph that ran in the Enterprise on Jan. 9, 2020. The judge said, “Keep up the great work!”

Brenda Brandt claimed second-place honors in the business news/feature story contest for an article titled “Normal, normal, what is normal?” about how local businesses were navigating COVID-19 protocols. It was from the May 21, 2020, Enterprise.

The judge said, “Excellent job on roundup with many sources. The hard work is evident here. With 41 entries, this competition wasn’t easy to judge. One factor for too many entries is they focused on one business. The winners worked hard with several sources, and they both focused on the COVID-19 situation. The writing for most entries was interesting, and I think readers likely enjoy their reports.”
