Young adults night scheduled for July 16
A Phillips County young adults night is planned for Friday, July 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Holyoke Golf Club. Adults in their 20s and 30s are invited to attend to meet and network with other young adults in Phillips County.
Jimmie Bailey III, operations consultant at Melissa Memorial Hospital, moved to Holyoke in the first week of April. He is an attorney licensed in Florida, and when COVID-19 restrictions were closing courts in that state, he wanted to look for a new start.
“It felt like Holyoke was a great place to reset,” he said.
In Florida, he often attended meetings of young professional groups.
He met Tristan Sullivan in men’s golf league in Holyoke. They began bouncing ideas off each other about ways to try to provide young people opportunities to socialize and network with one another. They came up with the idea to have the young adults night.
Sullivan said they’re trying to bring something new to Holyoke and get young adults involved in the community.
Bailey said he hopes the July 16 gathering is the first step of many, as he envisions this as an ongoing endeavor. He hopes to see how many people are interested and then start putting an organization together.
“The community here is incredibly welcoming,” he added.
