
Fair has fun scheduled for everyone
Phillips County Fair is Raisin’ the Steaks this year with a packed schedule of activities Tuesday-Sunday, July 20-25.
A circus performance is one of the new activities for this year’s fair. It will begin Thursday, July 22, at 7 p.m.
Carnival games will be set up Friday, July 23, from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday, July 24, from noon-7 p.m.
Phillips County Raceway will have plenty of action at this year’s fair. Races are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 23. Modifieds, stock cars, sport mods, hobby stocks, compacts, dwarfs, mini mods and utility terrain vehicles will be featured. Visit www.bstrac ing.com or call 720-404-0400 for more information.
The parade is scheduled for Saturday, July 24, at 10 a.m., and a tractor pull is scheduled for noon Sunday, July 25.
Barrel racing will start at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, and the ranch rodeo will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21.
Bulls Gone Wild! bull riding, bullfighting and mutton bustin’ will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 24.
The Thrashers Rocky Mountain oyster dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, and the cornhole tournament begins at 9 p.m. the same evening.
A pet show is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Homesteaders Park on Saturday, July 24. A salsa contest is tentatively scheduled for the same time at Phillips County Event Center, and help is still needed to facilitate the contest. Those interested in helping should contact Marianne Sullivan at 970-854-2518.
The junior livestock show is also scheduled for Saturday, July 24. It will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The Darl Atkins Memorial Horseshoe Pitching Contest will be held Friday, July 23, and Saturday, July 24, beginning at 1 p.m. both days.
The beer garden will be open Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at 4 p.m., Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at noon.

Tuesday, July 20
Entry of general/FCS and 4-H projects as well as 4-H interview judging is scheduled for the opening day of the fair beginning at 9 a.m.
Tiny tot horse show entries start at 12:30 p.m. at the Bank of Colorado Pavilion, where registration for all tiny tot shows will take place. The 4-H/FFA horse show begins at 1 p.m., as does the tiny tot horse show.
Barrel racing is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Wednesday, July 21
Stall setup for livestock exhibitors runs from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Open division and special themes contest entries are scheduled from 1-6 p.m.
From 1-4 p.m., poultry must be entered, and livestock and horses must be entered and stalled. Market animal weigh-in will begin at 4 p.m. in the order of beef, sheep, goats and hogs.
The Thrashers Rocky Mountain oyster dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The ranch rodeo will begin at 6 p.m. Contact Chance Skomp at 308-883-3019 to sign up a team or sign up to ride a bronc.
The Thrashers cornhole tournament team check-in is at 8:30 p.m., and the tournament begins at 9 p.m. Teams consist of two people who must be at least 21 years old. Contact Kendra Schlachter at 308-249-5294 for information.
Thursday, July 22
An exhibitors’ meeting will be held in the livestock show arena at 8 a.m.
Entry for the tiny tot poultry show begins at 8:30 a.m., and the show itself will start at 8:45 a.m., followed by the poultry show at about 9 a.m.
Judging for the open class exhibits begins at 1 p.m., as does entry and judging for farm mechanics.
The goat show begins at 2 p.m., followed immediately by the catch-it goat contest, then the tiny tot goat show.
The swine show will begin 30 minutes after the goat show, followed immediately by the tiny tot swine show.
Thursday’s activities will be capped by a circus performance at 7 p.m.
Friday, July 23
Phillips County Farm Bureau is sponsoring a breakfast for 4-H and FFA exhibitors, leaders and parents from 6-8 a.m. at the fairgrounds.
Tiny tot bucket calves will be entered and stalled at 8:30 a.m.
The dairy cow show will begin at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the beef show, then the adult beef showmanship.
The event center will open for exhibits at 9 a.m.
The sheep show will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the catch-it sheep contest, then the tiny tot sheep show.
The Darl Atkins Memorial Horseshoe Pitching Contest will begin at 1 p.m.
Carnival games will be available from 3-8 p.m.
The parade of champions, press time for 4-H/FFA livestock and 4-H general projects, and the chicken bingo contest will begin at 4 p.m. A barbecue in the Biesemeier Room of the event center starts at 5 p.m.
4-H/FFA livestock sale consignment forms are due at 6 p.m.
Car races and music by Half Passed Grass in the beer garden will start at 7 p.m.
Saturday, July 24
Parade entries to be judged must be in line by 8:30 a.m., and entries not being judged must be registered and in line by 9 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m., followed by kids’ games in Homesteaders Park.
The event center will open for exhibits at 10 a.m.
Carnival games will be available from noon-7 p.m.
The pet show at Homesteaders Park will begin at 1 p.m. Contact Alex Blake at 970-776-0451 to enter.

The junior livestock sale is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., with a buyers’ barbecue to follow.
Bulls Gone Wild! bull riding, bullfighting and mutton bustin’ starts at 7 p.m. Those interested in signing up for mutton bustin’ should watch the Phillips County Fairgrounds and Fair Facebook page for openings. It is limited to 20 kids on a first-come, first-served basis.
Jason Kimble Night Sounds will play music in the beer garden beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 25
A community church service will start at 9 a.m. The releasing of livestock exhibits, general 4-H projects, open show exhibits and the paying out of premiums will also begin at this time.
Tractor pull entries will begin at 11 a.m., and the tractor pull will start at noon.
