USAF officials brief county on missile replacement

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, July 22 — The U.S. Air Force will be swapping out old Minuteman missiles for the new Ground Based Strategic Deterrent missiles in Logan County and surrounding areas in the coming decade.

The Air Force will be removing the 450 Minuteman III missiles, built by Boeing and first deployed in 1970, and installing the new GBSD missiles from Northrop Grumman. Northrop also will be the primary contractor on swapping out the missiles, with subcontractors for the Warren AFB missile field coming mainly from the Greeley and Fort Collins areas.
