1 occupant flown out after vehicle accident near Lamar

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Sept. 29 — The Chase County, Nebraska, Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call last Thursday at 6 a.m. reporting a one-vehicle accident 3 miles east of the Nebraska/Colorado state line.

The Imperial, Nebraska, Volunteer Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene at the Highway 6 and Road 313 intersection, along with Chase County Chief Deputy Mike Dukes and Sheriff Kevin Mueller.

Once on scene, Mueller said they found a vehicle on its top in a reuse pit with about 4 feet of water.

The investigation determined that 21-year-old Kristen Cisneros from Valparaiso, Indiana, was traveling west on Highway 6 in a 2016 Ford Fusion when she apparently fell asleep and went into the south ditch.

After waking up, Mueller said she over-corrected, causing the vehicle to go into the north ditch, hit an embankment and go airborne. The vehicle went nose-first into a reuse pit and flipped onto its top, he said.
