Diego Nevarez sentenced to DOC

Diego Nevarez pleaded guilty and was found guilty of trespass (auto) with the intent to commit a crime.

His Phillips County case was heard in Yuma County on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and he was sentenced to 18 months in the Department of Corrections by Judge Stevie Gagliano.

A Dec. 21, 2020, press release from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office noted that Nevarez, 22, of Wray, was arrested in a stolen car by Broomfield police and was being held pending extradition back to Yuma County.

PCSO stated in the same December press release that it was believed that Nevarez was involved in Phillips County auto thefts that had occurred around that same time.

One Phillips County charge against Nevarez of motor vehicle theft less than $20,000 was dismissed.

A second charge, motor vehicle theft of $1,000-$20,000 (a Class 4 felony), was amended to trespass (auto) with intent to commit a crime (a Class 5 felony). It was this amended charge that Nevarez pleaded guilty to.
