Five Years Ago — Oct. 20, 2016

Wiggins-based Rudy’s Gas, Tire & Oil has completed the sale agreement with CHS Inc. to purchase the car care center operations of CHS Grainland. This includes the Colorado car care centers in Amherst, Haxtun and Holyoke, including Downtown Auto & Diesel, as well as the location in Big Springs, Nebraska.

More than 340 people attended Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Building New Bridges event Oct. 15 at Phillips County Event Center.

Issac Brandt, 18, son of Jerry and Debbie Brandt of Holyoke, was chosen as one of eight winners for the nonprofit organization Youth on Record’s 2016 Real Rock Star Awards. He was recognized at the organization’s gala Sept. 29 at EXDO Event Center in Denver.

 

Ten Years Ago — Oct. 20, 2011

Holyoke’s second automatic car wash was up and running last week after work was completed on Scholl Oil & Transportation’s new system. The new facility is located just east of Scholl Service Center at 625 E. Denver St.

Children enjoyed a petting zoo prior to entering the big top Oct. 12 for a night of awesome performances. The Family Big Top Circus was full of clowns, jugglers, comedy and fun.

Employees of Phillips County Road and Bridge have begun tearing out the old playground equipment at Homesteaders Park at Phillips County Fairgrounds. The county has received numerous grants to install a new universally accessible playground and enhancement projects.

 

Twenty-Five Years Ago — Oct. 24, 1996

A management-sales agreement with Country Hedging Inc. has been announced by the Hyline Seven Commodities Inc. board of directors. The agreement took effect Oct. 1, with Country Hedging Inc. assuming management of the local office. Hyline Seven Commodities Inc. was started in 1993 to provide ag producers with expanded marketing and information choices.

A physical therapy/sports medicine clinic formerly housed in Yuma has moved to Holyoke. Mark McDonald and Rita Mahn opened the McDonald Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Clinic, located at 133 W. Denver St. in Holyoke, on Oct. 1.

 

Fifty Years Ago — Oct. 21, 1971

A tornado causing damages amounting to approximately $1 million struck the town of Wray last Sunday night, ripping a trailer park to shreds before moving down the main business street.

Sugar beet growers comprising a seven-state area which includes Colorado must decide in the next few weeks on a plan to purchase the sugar interests of Great Western Sugar Co. The Great Western Producers Cooperative has been formed to purchase the Great Western Sugar Company and its subsidiaries.

 

Seventy-Five Years Ago — Oct. 24, 1946

All Church Hymn Sing this Sunday, Oct. 27, to be held in the Nazarene Church. Everyone is invited to attend this service.

Everything is in readiness for the Phillips County 4-H and FFA clubs’ exhibits to be held Saturday, Oct. 26. Stock and other exhibits will be made at the county fairgrounds. All the 4-H club and vocational agricultural members are expected to exhibit their projects.

Styles are sensible, colorful and neat this fall at PCHS. It seems fashionable for both boys and girls to wear bright-colored ski sweaters. Leather belts are a fad. Ballet slippers are a fad. Some of the girls have cut their hair and are wearing bangs. What a combination!
