Sterling High steps up COVID-19 protocols

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Oct. 12 — All students and staff at Sterling High School will have to wear masks starting Tuesday.

An email went out Monday afternoon from RE-1 Valley School District Superintendent Shila Adolf that the school was moving into Phase 2 of its COVID-19 mitigation plan as a result of an outbreak of COVID-19 at the school.

America’s Crossroads Cafe now open in Venango

GRANT TRIBUNE-SENTINEL, Oct. 13 — Now open and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner is America’s Crossroads Cafe in Venango, Nebraska, owned by Candy Hiser-Bazan and her husband Raul.

They previously owned a business together in Venango, Cactus Palace bar and grill.

Commissioners adopt wind and solar regulations during public meeting

AKRON NEWS-REPORTER, Oct. 13 — The public meeting held after last Tuesday’s regular commissioners meeting was nothing like the ones before this. About 30 people were present, and it was very quiet and nonthreatening.

“I have to say after much input, much research, much deliberation, that I have come to a conclusion about how I feel about the wind regulations. I have to say that change is inevitable. ... The government responsibility in the wind towers and solar towers is high, I won’t argue with that. We still need to protect private property rights, allow people to continue to work their property the way they can, without damaging their neighbor’s property ... I think the regulations that have been drafted to this point are fair and decent regulations to incorporate all of that,” said Commissioner Kent Vance.
