Escape to Margaritaville at Legacy Event

If you’re needing a break from cold weather, if you’re getting coronavirus cabin fever or if you’re searchin’ for your lost shaker of salt, Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation has the cure! “Escape to Margaritaville” is the theme of the 12th annual Legacy Event.

A perfect getaway to Margaritaville is planned for Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Phillips County Event Center. It’s a black-tie event, and guests can dress in Margaritaville attire or formal evening wear.

In addition to the evening’s food, drinks and fun, the event will include silent and live auctions. An acoustic guitar, autographed by none other than Jimmy Buffett himself, will be featured in the live auction. Buffett is an American singer-songwriter, musician, author, actor and businessman — best known for his music, which often portrays an “island escapism” lifestyle. He has recorded hit songs including “Margaritaville” and “Come Monday.” Buffett’s devoted fans are known as Parrotheads, and he currently owns the famous Margaritaville Cafe restaurant chain.

Funds raised at the Legacy Event will go toward new equipment for Melissa Memorial Hospital plus scholarships for students pursuing medical degrees and MMHF operations.

The 10th annual event broke records by raising over $186,000, and last year’s event brought in over $135,000 even though it had to be moved to July due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Most recently, the foundation raised funds for a cardiac monitor system for the physical therapy/rehab department in 2021, a 3D mammography machine for the MMH radiology department in 2020 and the Londa Wernet Bradford Cancer Center in 2019. Other areas of fundraising since Legacy Events began in 2011 include an ambulance, Grow Our Own Physician Fund, Endowment Fund, MMH employee loan forgiveness program, treadmill, low-rise bed, community education, MMH expansion project and various additional hospital equipment.

In February, MMHF will be featuring an auction item that the buyer will have the opportunity to donate to one of the MMH departments. The item will be selected based on needs expressed by the departments. Items that have been auctioned in the past are a hi-low exam table for the physical therapy department, two EMS pediatric packs, LED surgical lamp, medication disposal safe for the community, two TC transport patient chairs, and dietary dishes and carts.

Raffle tickets will be available later this month, and the winning ticketholder will get to pick from five different trips. The winner has until February 2024 to complete travel to his or her selected destination. The trips include Cancun All-Inclusive (four nights), Charleston Luxury Getaway (three nights), Explore Key West (three nights), Las Vegas VIP (three nights) and Nashville Unplugged (three nights). All trips include airfare for two people. Margaritaville Cafes are located in three of the five destinations — Cancun, Key West and Las Vegas.
